Scotland is filled with excellent independent bookshops, from city centres to the Highlands and Islands. At Birlinn we hugely value our relationship with these innovative booksellers and their shops. Throughout the year we’d like to take the time to highlight Scotland’s fantastic bookshops for you.
Based at the west end of Biggar’s flourishing High Street of lovely independent shops, Atkinson-Pryce Books is an Aladdin’s cave of books – a place to feel inspired, a real bookshop with real books and booksellers who love them. As well as being a dedicated bookshop they also stock some additional treats; stunning cards, wrapping paper, notebooks and bookmarks, as well as other literary gifts.
The Moffat Bookshop is a delightful independent outlet located on Well Street in the Borders town of Moffat. From pre-owned books, crime, fiction, books by local authors, children’s, science fiction, and collectables, through to poetry and non-fiction, there is a huge range to choose from. The shop also stocks a range of secondhand collectable books, available in store and through their online store at AbeBooks.
20 Storey Books is a brand new store in the picturesque town of Kelso in the Scottish Borders. Established in 2021, 20 Storey packs in a huge range of books across all genres, as well as stocking gifts, mugs, local artist prints, jigsaws, and much more. Located at number 18, The Square, this is the perfect place to pick up a memento of your time in the Borders.
Based in St Boswell’s in the Scottish Borders, The Main Street Trading bookshop and café opened in June 2008, with a mission to champion what they love, and offer their customers a wonderful shopping experience. In 2012, they developed the beautiful barn behind the main shop to create a Deli & Home shop. More than 10 years on, the shop has gained a wonderful, loyal customer base, with new people coming through the doors every day.
