Birlinn Sponsored Books

Do you have material for a book that you would like to see in print? Birlinn can offer you the chance to make this happen. Whether it is a history of your school, a family history or a personal project, whatever the circumstances, and however you ‘see’ the project, Birlinn can take it forward. Our list ranges from high-level academic monographs to exhibition catalogues, through family and company histories, to poetry and fiction. We work with the sponsor to advise on the best way to publish the book, the potential market for it, and the potential return that might be expected from it. Every project is different and we recognise that in our approach. We cost projects in the following way:

1.      We lay out all the costs associated with the various production aspects of the project from manuscript to printed copies.

2.      We add on a management fee to cover the ‘invisible’ time and fixed costs involved in working through a project to completion.

3.      Finally we add on a figure for the profit we need to make on the project.

In this way we lay out all aspects involved in managing a project through to completion so that the client can consider every area.

We can, where appropriate, offer a sales and distribution service for the book. We will ensure your title is on all our standard distribution channels at the advantageous rates we enjoy. We remit monies to you after deducting a charge for handling sales, distribution, administration and storage. Where appropriate, a marketing package can also be agreed.

Below we have listed a range of titles we have produced in recent years. This is only a small sample to illustrate the breadth of our publishing in this area. These books get the same care and attention in every respect as our trade books, and we take the same pride in producing each title to the highest quality.

Should you be interested in talking to us about such a project please contact Hugh Andrew (Managing Director) at hugh@birlinn.co.uk.
