Now airing on Sky TV is Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, the powerful story inspired by the account of Jim Swire in our book Lockerbie: A Father’s Search for Justice.
This is the searing account of Jim’s search for the truth on behalf of his daughter Flora and all who died in the Lockerbie Bombing.
Colin Firth stars as Jim Swire, and the show is directed by Otto Bathurst.
The bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie in December 1988 is the deadliest terrorist attack to have taken place in Britain. In all, 270 people were murdered, among them Flora, beloved daughter of Jim and Jane Swire.
Initially, Jim accepted American claims that Libya was responsible. But during the trial of Abdelbaset al- Megrahi, the man eventually convicted of the atrocity, he began to have doubts. Since then it has been revealed that the American government paid millions of dollars to two key witnesses, and forensic evidence central to the prosecution case has been discredited. Megrahi himself maintained his innocence right up to his death in 2012.
Jim Swire spoke to BBC News ahead of the Sky TV premiere, saying “The more people look at what happened at Lockerbie the happier I’ll be.
“You can make your own decision about whether you believe the official version or the alternative that we’ve laboured so far to find.
“I hope this the Sky series will do that because I’m getting pretty long in the tooth and I can’t go on doing this forever.”
