We are thrilled to share the news that The Hidden Fires by Merryn Glover has been shortlisted for the Boardman Tasker
Award for Mountain Literature 2023. This is such well deserved recognition for this beautiful book, which follows in the footsteps of Nan Shepherd in a conversation between two women across a century.

The Chair of judges Matt Fry said of The Hidden Fires, ‘Drawing on the work of Nan Shepherd and her classic, The Living Mountain, is not an undertaking to be taken lightly and Glover doesn’t disappoint in this beautifully written and well-researched journey through the Cairngorms. Intertwining her own personal experiences of the mountains with Shepherd’s own observations, this book is an ode to the unique landscape and a valuable addition to mountain literature.’

The prizegiving ceremony will take place on 17th November at the Kendal Mountain Festival, where Merryn will be invited to give a reading from her book.

Find out more about the full shortlist here.

We send our huge congratulations to Merryn for this fantastic news. If you would like to hear more from Merryn about her writing, she will be appearing at Wild Words in Pitlochry on 9th September.
