Congratulations to Alan Steadman

It seems to be the season for Lifetime Achievement Awards. In the same week in which Alexander McCall Smith was recognised by the Saltire Society for his life-long contribution to the arts, good friend to Alexander and his books – Alan Steadman – received the Lifetime Achievement honour at the Scottish Jazz Awards.

Alan is a renowned jazz promoter and broadcaster and this award coincides with his retirement this year following an illustrious career supporting and promoting jazz within Scotland (Alexander, it should be noted, would like to point out that he has no plans for retirement). Hailing from Broughty Ferry, Alan is also the voice of the Speaking Clock, a widely respected journalist and a broadcaster of some 35 years. Alexander and Alan struck up a friendship through Hospitalfield, a remarkable centre for contemporary art and ideas, where they have joined in hugely successful literary events together. Through his work at Hospitalfield, Alan has become friend and supporter to writers and publishers throughout Scotland.

Congratulations Alan.
