Harper’s Bazaar Welcomes Fine Writing

  07 Dec '20   |  Posted by: Birlinn

Three months ago, prestigious monthly magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, invited four of their favourite writers to contribute a short, uplifting story for their January edition (out now). The writers were Marina Lewycka, Tahmima Anam, Hannah Rothschild and our own, Alexander McCall Smith. The four stories are published under the umbrella title ‘Slices of Life’, a quartet of short stories – by turns heart-warming, comic or poignant – each composed especially for Bazaar. The stories are published with illustrations by Andy Warhol.

Alexander McCall Smith, author of the 44 Scotland Street series, wrote the story – ‘The Violin Case’. Set in America in 1928, this is a tale in which a musical misunderstanding leads to a change of heart for a Chicago gangster. A warm story of the power of love, this is perfect reading for the Christmas period; the magazine, the perfect addition to any Christmas stocking.

Harper’s Bazaar, January 2021, is on sale now.
