Topping & Company – Welcome to Edinburgh

Topping & Company Booksellers are in town. The gorgeous, oak-bookshelf-lined-shop, complete with library ladders and traditional Edinburgh rooms, opened on Blenheim Place just a few weeks ago – just down from the Playhouse Theatre – and the shop is already busy and buzzing!

Four members of the Birlinn team went down today at lunchtime and not one of us came out having spent less than £30. The shelves still have some gaps – with signs saying ‘more books arriving every day’ – and the air smells faintly of new paint. And indeed don’t trip up over the joiners on the stairs. BUT do go. The shop is a delight. Two stories of carefully curated books, beautifully presented and delightful staff. Local book-buyers will be pleased by the return of Duncan Furness, formerly of Waterstones and before that Ottakars. A familiar face back where he belongs.
