About the Book
Jim Wallace – Lord Wallace of Tankerness – was for decades an influential Liberal politician who achieved the rare distinction in politics of being disliked by almost nobody.
A long-standing Member of Parliament for Orkney and Shetland, he became leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats in 1992 and helped create the devolved Scottish Parliament via the cross-party Scottish Constitutional Convention. His varied career later saw him serve as a minister in both the Scottish and UK governments, as well as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. This short tribute volume includes contributions from friends, family and colleagues on every aspect of Jim’s career and character. It commemorates – and celebrates – one of Scotland’s finest post-war public figures.
The Authors
David Torrance
David Torrance is a constitutional specialist at the House of Commons Library. In a past life he was a political journalist and broadcaster for almost two decades in Edinburgh and London. He is also the author of more than 20 books, including biographies of David Steel, Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon.
Craig Harrow
Craig Harrow has been a successful election agent in Scotland on seven occasions and has been a Liberal Democrat candidate for both the Holyrood and Westminster parliaments. He runs his own strategic communications consultancy business and is co-founder of a production company that specialises in women’s sport.
