What is the Birlinn Creator Community?
The Birlinn Creator Community is an exclusive programme for content creators to access proofs and receive exciting updates in our quarterly newsletter. We want to work with passionate, innovative book influencers who share a love of reading and support Scotland’s vibrant literary tradition, just like we do!
↓ What is Birlinn?
Birlinn is an independent publishing house based in Edinburgh. Founded in 1992, we have cultivated a reputation at the forefront of Scottish publishing, working with some of the most exciting authors around to bring outstanding books to readers across the world.
↓ What do you publish?
We publish across several imprints, including Birlinn for non-fiction, history, memoir and politics, Polygon for fiction, poetry, music and narrative non-fiction, Arena Sport for sports books, John Donald for academic titles and BC Books for children’s titles.
Some of our recent authors include Jenni Fagan, Alexander McCall Smith, Denise Mina, Merryn Glover, Hannah Lavery, Denzil Meyrick, Alan Warner, Mara Menzies, Ron Butlin, Alycia Pirmohamed, among many others.
↓ How can I get involved?
In recent years, social media has become an increasingly important space for readers seeking book recommendations, and we love seeing your fantastically creative content championing our books. We want to make it easier for book influencers to request proofs that interest you, and work more closely with you on exciting content, giveaways, author interviews, and more.
↓ How will it work?
If this sounds interesting to you, please fill out the form below – it should only take around 5 minutes to complete. If we think we’ll work well together, we will contact you directly, and you will be added to our list to receive our quarterly influencer newsletter. This newsletter will include information about our forthcoming books and offer physical and digital proofs which you can request, as well as other exclusive content.
We offer advance proofs and finished copies of our books in the hope you will enjoy and feature them on your social media account, but there is no obligation to post, and we do not currently offer paid sponsored content.
↓ Who are we looking for?
For now, we can only accept creators based in the UK. We love our international readers but many of our books are not distributed internationally, and postage costs to send proofs are prohibitively high. As an independent publisher, we have a limited number of proofs, so we ask that creators who apply have at least 1000 followers on their main platform.
As a Scottish publisher, many of our books are by Scottish authors or have a strong connection to Scotland. Of course, you do not have to be Scottish to apply, but you should have an interest in the types of books we publish.
