Wigtown Book Festival: Stuart Cosgrove

Hey America – The Epic Story of Black Music and the White House

There may be no more vivid chronicler of the story of black music in America in the second half of the century than Perth’s very own Stuart Cosgrove. He’s back at Wigtown this year to tell us more about the often strange, sometimes controversial, often confrontational relationship between black musicians and America’s presidents, from James Brown meeting Nixon to Obama’s love of Prince.

As well as writing books, Stuart Cosgrove has been a music journalist, TV executive and broadcaster. He hosts the popular Radio Scotland football phone-in, Off the Ball. A previous book, Cassius X, is soon to be the basis of a documentary on the Smithsonian Channel.
