Wigtown Book Festival: Hannah Lavery

Hannah Lavery – Blood Salt Spring

Edinburgh’s Makar comes to Wigtown to talk about her debut poetry collection, much of it written during lockdown. Lavery’s debut deals with difficult family relationships, racism, nationalism, ideas of belonging (and not belonging) in a voice that is by turns, angry, fierce and consoling. This is poetry of the moment and Lavery is as compelling in person as she is on the page.

Poet and playwright Hannah Lavery was named one of the BBC Scottish Voices of 2020. Her autobiographical play The Drift, produced by the National Theatre of Scotland, toured Scotland in 2019, while her play The Lament for Sheku Bayoh was commissioned by the Royal Lyceum Theatre for the Edinburgh International Festival.
