A full-day writing workshop (including a lunch break) by writer and performance storyteller Mara Menzies during Book Week Scotland 2021

Join writer and performance storyteller Mara Menzies in a full-day workshop exploring the weaving of thoughts, ideas and memories into narrative. Drawing from her dual Kenyan/Scottish heritage, she explores how she takes inspiration from personal history, global events and the world around her to craft stories that speak to wider themes. With a fusion of storytelling performance, solo and group practical exercises, we conclude with a creative writing exercise led by author Sonali Misra.

Timing: 11 am–12.30 pm & 1.30 pm–3 pm (including 1-hour lunch break)

About Mara

Mara (she/her) is an award-winning performance storyteller. She is author of Blood and Gold, a novel exploring the legacy of colonialism through myth and fantasy. She draws on her rich, dual Kenyan/Scottish cultural heritage, fusing ancient and modern in an intoxicating storytelling experience.

About Sonali

Sonali (she/her) is an Indian author and PhD researcher. Her debut nonfiction, 21 Fantastic Failures, was released in 2020, and her short stories and personal essays have appeared in Scottish, Indian and Canadian anthologies. She is Co-founder of The Selkie Publications CIC and Co-chair of the Society of Young Publishers Scotland.
