Professor Jim Hunter at the University of the Highlands and Islands
Jim Hunter, Emeritus Professor of History at the University of the Highlands and Islands, talks about his recent book, Insurrection: Scotland’s Famine Winter, and takes questions on how he set about the archival and other research underlying his meticulous reconstruction of a brief, but often violent, episode: three months which brought widespread hunger, saw grain carts seized, ships boarded, harbours blockaded, a jail forced open, the military deployed and soldiers firing on protesters.
