Patrick Laurie at Aye Write Festival
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU AT FUTURE EVENTS.
In Native: Life in a Vanishing Landscape, Patrick Laurie returns to his native Galloway and establishes a new herd of extremely rare ‘riggit Galloways’. Patrick discovers a way of life as it has been for generations, but which is now under extreme threat. In the last 50 years much of Galloway’s moorland has been given over to commercial forest, affecting farmland species, such as the curlew, whose numbers are now in dramatic decline. The book traces Patrick’s experiences over the course of a single year, as he walks beside birds and cattle, considers what they mean as part of a lost landscape and reflects on the practicalities of conservation.
