Mallaig Book Festival: Polly Pullar

A Write Highland Hoolie

A Write Highland Hoolie is Mallaig’s Book Festival. It is taking place at the West Highland Hotel, Mallaig, from afternoon on Friday 11 November to afternoon on Sunday 13 November.

Polly Pullar is a conservationist, naturalist, writer and photographer, and co-founder of A Write Highland Hoolie. She specialises in wildlife and countryside matters and is also a wildlife rehabilitator. She contributes to a wide selection of magazines and her books include Fauna Scotica: Animals and People in Scotland, A Richness of Martens, A Scurry of Squirrels, A Drop in the Ocean, and her latest, a memoir – The Horizontal Oak: A Life in Nature.

In her memoir The Horizontal Oak, Polly invites us into a life defined by a passion for wildlife, and wild places, a life shaped by the addictions and loss of loved ones, yet full of compassion for the complexities of what it means to be human. This often humorous memoir, is a treasure of insight, empathy and vulnerability, punctuated with glorious people, animals and places that will stay with you for a long time.
