Steven Veerapen’s new biography The Wisest Fool: The Lavish Life of James VI and I, sheds light on the life and reign of the first Stuart king of England. James’ life is laid bare and it rescues the much-mocked sovereign from the poisonous pens of his critics and explores him as he was known in his own time: as an idealistic family man with a fatal weakness for luxury and handsome favourites. Steven was born in Glasgow and raised in Paisley. He teaches English Literature at the University of Strathclyde and writes historical fiction.
