Alycia Pirmohamed at Topping & Co, Edinburgh

(THIS EVENT HAS NOW PASSED)

Join Topping & Co this Autumn to celebrate Alycia Pirmohamed’s debut poetry collection, Another Way to Split Water; a powerful meditation on womanhood, belonging, intimacy, and the natural world. This collection signals the arrival of one the newest and most vibrant voices of the Edinburgh poetry scene.

Alycia’s poems are a lyrical exploration of how ancestral memory reforms and transforms throughout generations, through stories told and retold, imagined and reimagined. Across the pages of Another Way to Split Water, a woman’s body expands and contracts, fog uncoils at the fringes of a forest, water cascades into metaphors of longing and separation, signaling inheritance, revival, and recuperation. Alycia’s lines unfold in unforgettably arresting imagery and offer a map towards a self-understanding deeply rooted in time and place.

Alycia Pirmohamed is a Canadian-born poet based in Edinburgh. She is the author of the pamphlets Hinge and Faces that Fled the Wind, . She is the co-founder of the Scottish BPOC Writers Network, a co-organiser of the Ledbury Poetry Critics Program, and she currently teaches on the MSt. Creative Writing at the University of Cambridge. Alycia is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2019 CBC Poetry Prize and the 2020 Edwin Morgan Poetry Award.
