Tom Fairfax has a degree in history from Lancaster University, an MLitt in Scottish Historical Studies from the University of St Andrews and a PhD from the University of Nottingham, where he helped to manage the university’s successful ‘Vikings for Schools’ programme. In 2021 he won the Bernard Aspinwall Prize for an outstanding work related to Scottish Catholic history.
